Tours and Trails

Discover the true heart of South Australia through the eyes of those that helped shape it. Delve into the world they inhabited, the lives they led and share their hopes, ideals and dreams at historic West Terrace Cemetery.

The cemetery has been a major feature of Adelaide since Colonel William Light laid out the city in 1837. Now, the State Heritage Listed landmark is home to more than 150,000 souls and reveals much, if not more, of Adelaide’s character than some of the State’s more famous attractions.

You can navigate your way through the multi-award-winning cemetery in your own time, join a guided tour, or for something a little different, explore the cemetery after dark.

Night Tours

As the gates close and darkness falls across West Terrace Cemetery, this iconic effigy to Adelaide’s past residents takes on different ambiance. With only the soft glow of your lantern to light the way, and the eerie shadows of the monuments looming at every step, this unique guided sound and light experience takes you on an intriguing journey through good and evil, passion and reason, and the vices and virtues that are part of the human condition.

As you explore the cemetery you will meet a host of dubious individuals, larrikins, eccentrics and mysterious figures. Their stories are so baffling, so bizarre and so callous that they will resonate in your mind long after the lanterns dim at the end of the night.
